Center Harbor Real Estate For Sale | Homes For Sale Center Harbor NH

Center Harbor is a quiet getaway in the heart of the lakes region. (Est. 1797) The town acquired its name from its harbor on Lake Winnipesaukee centered between Meredith and Moultonborough, and also from the Senter family, who were owners of a large amount of property in the area. It is located 118 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts, and 50 miles northeast of Concord, New Hampshire.

With a long history of being a summer destination, the town began as a landing place for lake steam boats and stagecoaches. It is the winter home of the Mt. Washington, the largest boat on Lake Winnipesaukee. Located in the center of town, the historic Kona Fountain was presented to Center Harbor by Herbert Dumaresq in 1907. It is a sculpture of an Indian in crouching position holding up a goose's head.

Tourism remains the main industry of the town. Often on Friday summer evenings, to welcome visitors and to celebrate the end of the work week, bands play in the gazebo near the town’s center. Most of the restaurants, motels, shops and other businesses are locally owned and operated. The New Hampshire Music Festival,  offers summer concert series of orchestral classical music and pops. The town boasts several miles of shoreline on Squam Lake and a mile on Lake Winnipesaukee. The town beach and playground is located along the Lake Winnipesaukee shoreline, and is enjoyed by both locals and vacationers. One of the most spectacular views is on the top of Sunset Hill, the highest point in town.

The town has a large block of conservation land comprised of the 47 acre Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary located northwest of the town center. Adjacent to this property is Center Harbor Woods, a 225 acre conservation area. The two properties abut a third conservation property in neighboring town of Moultonborough, forming a block of protected woodland comprising nearly 400 acres.
In the off season the community welcomes skiers, snowmobilers and ice fishermen to sustain the local economy.

Recent census data states a population of 1096; the median income for a household in the town is $51,806, and the median income for a family is $55,938.

Center Harbor students attend Inter-Lakes Elementary School and Inter-Lakes Junior-Senior High School in Meredith, joining students from Meredith and Sandwich.
