Welcome to Lake Life
Tamworth was chartered in 1766 and includes the villages of Chocorua, South Tamworth, Wonalancet and Whittier. Because of its charming country feel and its close proximity to both the White Mountains and Lakes Region, Tamworth provides many fun things to do in both summer and winter. Tamworth is the home to the Barnstormers Theater, the oldest professional summer theater in the country, which was established by President Grover Cleveland's son Francis and his wife Alice in 1931. Tamworth is also the home to Hemenway State Forest, White Lake State Park and Chocorua Lake with a stunning Mount Chocorua set in the backdrop. A visit here and one can see why Mount Chocorua is one of the most photographed mountains in the United States.
